Pastor's Monthly Message

Greetings to all of you in Jesus' name!

I trust that all of you are fine and well in the Lord Jesus Christ, but if you are not, DO NOT loose heart as the one (Jesus) who saved you and called you IS faithful (1 Thessalonians 5:23-24; 2 Timothy 2:13). Amen!

We are launching into a new series of messages from the book of Nehemiah - entitling it as "Hand Me Another Brick." It's basically messages from Nehemiah about rebuilding of broken down walls. To us it ay be WALLS of broken relationships, WALLS of broken lives, WALLS of broken walk with God, WALLS of broken future, etc.

In order to fully appreciate Nehemiah's life, belief and leadership, we need to understand the existing historical situation during which God called him to his task.

All Jewish history flows down from one individual, Abraham, whom God promised to make into a great nation that would bless the world from their own land (Genesis 12:1-3). Centuries later, under the reigns of Saul, David, and Solomon - the dawn of God's glorious promises to Abraham began to peek over the horizon. But, like a lingering, arctic dawn that never turns today, poor decision and poor leadership - resulting from poor character - delayed their fulfilment of God plan for them.

During Solomon's reign, his moral compromises became so great that God finally dealt with him (1 Kings 11:11-12). In 931 BC, the 10 northern tribes revolted and formed their own nation, Israel. The 2 remaining tribes in the south bore the name of Judah, God somehow dealt with Israel through the Assyrians after 200 years of disobedience to God and of embracing pagan idolatry under corrupt leaderships.

In the south, Judah was blessed with a number of wise, godly leaders who launched several revivals among the people, rebuilding the crumbling leadership of predecessors and returning the people to the Lord and His Law. But eventually the kings of Judah turned away from the Lord, and from 606 to 586 BC, the Babylonians first tormented, then destroyed Jerusalem - including the temple and the city walls (2 Chronicles 36:17-20). The people of Judah were taken captives to Babylon, where God continued to preserve a faithful remnant among His people.

After an appointed time of 70 years, God shifted the balance of world power Babylonians to the Persians and Medes. He then prompted the new captors to allow the Jews to return to their homeland. First King Cyrus, and later Artaxerxes, allowed the Jews to return home and to pick up the pieces of their ravage lives and land (2 Chronicles 36:22-23; Ezra 7:11-13).

The first band of returnees, led by Zerubbabel in 536 BC, focused on rebuilding the spiritual lives of the people. Finally, in 444 BC, Nehemiah returned to rebuild the walls needed to protect the remnant of Israel from the outside forces bent on destroying them.

So much so for for Bible history ~ after this week, we will be having messages regarding Nehemiah's work ON REBUILDING all the broken down WALLS surrounding the City of Jerusalem and the lives of the people of Israel. Through this we want to learn some amazing life lessons ON BUILDING and REBUILDING our lives WITH God and with people around us. Amen!

May you and I have some precious time learning and finding ut from Nehemiah what he does for our own lives too. Let's journey through this together for the next 2 months. Amen!

God Bless!

Pastor Christopher Mun
